Scavenger Hunt: 2-10

10. Lichen
Lichen is any of the many symbiotic organisms, being associations of fungi and algae. It can often be found on old walls and places. This is a picture of moss growing in between old sections of concrete.

9. Heterotroph
This is my dog and she is an example of a heterotroph. She is an organism which depends on an external supply of complex organic substances for nutrition. Since she cannot carry out the process of photosynthesis or retain her own food source, feeding her is necessary.

8. Fermentation
This a cup of alcohol fermenting (alcoholic fermentation). Alcoholic fermentation is the process in which sugar converts to alcohol using yeast under anerobic conditions.

7. Ectotherm
This is my turtle. Since a turtle is a reptile, it is an ectotherm. An ectotherm is a cold-blooded organism which regulates its body temperature by exchanging heat with its surroundings.

6. Connective Tissue
This ear is an example of connective tissue. Connective tissue is a framework of fibers that holds various body structures together; cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels.

5. Carbohydrates
Both bread and pasta are form of carbohydrates which contains starches and sugars turned into a simple sugar called glucose. They fill numerous roles in living things, such as the storage and transport of energy.

4. Bilateral Symmetry
Bilateral symmetry is a basic body plan in which the left and right sides of the organism can be divided into approximate mirror images of each other along the midline. This leaf shows two symmetrical sides both left and right of the midline.

3.Basidiomycete
This is a mushroom, fungi, or basidiomycete. These are members of a group of fungi called Basidiomycotina, which includes mushrooms and puffballs. They produce spores that are formed on the outside of a special cell called the basidium.

2. Amniotic Egg
An amniotic egg is a water retaining egg where birds and reptiles (and egg laying mammals) are capable of completing their life cycles on dry land. This is an amniotic sac from a chicken egg in which once enclosed an embryo to provide nutrition from an outside source.
